This was one of the most incredible scenes I’d ever witnessed. The most rainfall in the Milford region since record keeping began in New Zealand history. I found an area on the road just out of the cove and watched as hundreds of waterfalls took over the mountains in under 2 or 3 minutes. This image as captured just seconds before gale force winds blew in and made standing near impossible. I later found out this was the remaining front of a cyclone that had earlier in the month, passed down through Fiji to the southern ocean. Awesome.

PHOTO TIP
Never miss a shot because you might get wet. That one in a million image is because you took a risk to do something outside your comfort zone. I often tell me students that if we hike into an area, expect to be shooting in the sunshine, the rain, the hail and dark. Epic photographs are not captured from the carpark or the safety of your tent.
