I’d always wanted to go the top of the Space needle in Seattle. My mother told me as a child about the building like a space ship. I was in awe, so once I had the chance to go up this incredible structure, I just had to photograph the hell out of it. I stood out on the balcony and could see the entire skyline and surrounds, from Mt Rainier to Puget Sound. This ferry was heading across the sound towards the Olympic Peninsula and I loved the scale of the image. A tiny boat, which is actually not that small, in what seems to be an ocean in a bay.

PHOTO TIP

From this kind of height, you can often see “forever” on a clear day.  But one thing will make life difficult, a long zoom lens. Look at your lens and you’ll notice numbers similar to 18-85mm. The bigger the number, the further int your picture you can zoom, to bring something closer to you. The trade of is, that when you are zoomed all the way in, you’ll notice your shaky hands make it hard to steady the picture. Look for a lens that has optical stabilization or get a tripod. This will help with reducing the shakiness. The other alternative is to use a faster shutter speed (1/200th, 1/500th, 1/1000th sec etc) which will freeze the image in between your shaky hands.
