CAPTURE DETAILS

Canon 5D Mk2, 14mm, F8, 1/250th sec, ISO 1200, no filter, processed in Lightroom.

I saw this shot from the monorail that takes you to the Space Needle. The ceiling of the monorail has big open windows and I saw the tree and how the Space needle would look against it, almost as it comparing it in size. I love the way the tree seems to be reaching to caress this icon of Seattle.

PHOTO TIP

Scale is interesting. With the right angle you can make small things look enormous and vice versa. It can be a lot of fun to miniaturise subjects to create a completely different perspective. Wide angle lenses do this best, but tilt shift lenses do this even better. Do your research on these kinds of lenses and how scale can be used to create interesting images. Look for subjects that are close by that you can include in the foreground and other subjects that you can place in the background. This can appear as if they are side by side, like the Space Needle and the tallest tree branches in the world.
