Strolling through Martin Place, Sydney’s largest outdoor plaza, I watched all the corporate types doing their thing on lunch. Suits everywhere, I spotted a man on his phone, standing under the enormously odd shaped Commercial Travellers Association building. I love the connection here. The man seemingly unaware that neither rain nor sun would be blocked by the building towering over him like an umbrella, he seems content with his choice of protection.

PHOTO TIP

This is the perfect example of street meets life. Urban architecture and how we interact with the oddities of a building. Place your subject in a contrasted position. In this case the man is in dark clothing and against a white background. you can’t miss him. Although luck on this occasion, by choosing a wide angle in these situations, you can demonstrate scale easily. This wide angle will emphasise the buildings height and miniaturise the subject.
