Seattle is a city packed full of culture and street art. This image was revealed as I turned a corner in Pioneer Square. The whole building had a heritage look to it, except the long artistic facade, which, to me, gave it a bit of a modern urban grunge feel. I got the feeling it was about to be demolished, but the facade was being preserved. I captured the scene just as a little old lady, walked down the length of the artwork, seemingly uncaring. I remember nodding to myself and smirking, welcome to America.

PHOTO TIP

Street art and street scenes in general, no matter where you go in the world, are for me the ultimate life record. They encompass humans in the environment we have so proudly and selfishly built for ourselves. It’s the objectification of nature by man. I don’t mean to sound deep and unreasonable, but in essence that is the truth. So why not document it? I actually think street style documentary photography is more powerful that any other form of photography. In fact I hold a workshop on it, in Sydney, Australia for 3 days, I love it so much. Get use to black and white photography. Trust me yo will see things differently.
