I’d spent some time along Route 66 in the South West, and discovered this beautiful old wreck sitting behind a shed. There are great stop off points all along Route 66 and this was one of them. An old gas station, packed full of memorabilia from the 50s and 60s. Wandering through these properties was like going back in time. Old signs, and car wrecks were everywhere. I love how this old Humble sign speaks to the nature of the old wreck, a beast of a car in its time.

PHOTO TIP

Visiting places such as this is as much a time warp as it is a photographers paradise. Convert your colour settings in your camera to black and white and try to create a sense of history or reverence. If you can’t do it in camera, try editing the image afterwards in your editing program. Compare the two, colour and black and white and see what comes to mind. Does a black and white version make your image appear more nostalgic and simple in its message?
