I love the connection between both elements in this image. I can imagine the old troopers car hiding behind the big signs along Route 66 just waiting to nab someone. I had to find the right angle in the late setting sun to make sure both the sign and the troopers emergency light were both in shot, and that they made a connection.

Don’t be afraid to get up close, especially with a wide angle lens. You can include complimentary items in your scene that show a connection to your subject, like the stop sign and the car.  Try to keep the surrounding elements in some kind of formation that leads you across from one subject to another. In this case, the lines above the word stop converge towards the car, as if pointing to it. Taken at another angle, without a wide angle lens to cause this exaggeration the connection may not have been as strong.
