ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Afterglow, Death Valley, California – Steve Rutherford Landscape Photography Art Gallery

This is an unframed, limited edition collection landscape photography print of only 25 units. It is printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl papers, structured to refract the highest values in colour and detail. It’s high-quality ink absorbing layer enables exceptional image quality with enormously detailed sharpness, and a very broad colour range, providing archival permanency of your artwork for over 100 years.

CAPTURE DETAILS

On tripod, Canon 5DMk2, 20mm, F11, 1/8th second, ISO 100, no filter, processed in Lightroom.

The last light of day faded as I sat atop a huge sand dune in Death Valley. It was surprisingly cool in temperature after a blistering day. As the wind became cold, the heat remained and kept me warm as I knelt in the sand. The colours were just amazing, with a beautiful golden glow falling on everything around.

PHOTO TIP

When you get to that time of day, where the golden hour happens, go into your cameras menu settings and if you have the ability to do so, change the temperature of your image to become a little warmer. This may be listed as tint/temperature or Kelvin, usually indicated in numbers from 3100-9000. Standard daylight is around 5500. If you increase the number to around 7000, you will add a slight yellow/orange tint over your image, which will emphasize the golden time of day. You can choose to use a sunset filter, or warming filter, but I am not a fan of any filters as they increase the chances of flare and also sharpening being affected.
