I remember stumbling through to this place in the dark. Head torches helped me cautiously get to the edge but it wasn’t until light started to break that I kew the danger in front of me. Below Mesa Arch is a 500 foot drop straight down, but the view is just magical. It looks like what I imagine Mars would look like. Bright red rose everywhere, massive cracks in the earth. I had to wait an hour for the sun to peak over the snow capped mountains in the distance and create that bright red glow under the arch.

The humble head torch needs to become your friend. You can’t arrive for sunrise at sunrise. You will need to be there at already set up at the turn of day, which is generally 30 minutes prior to the actual sunrise. Thats where your head torch will help. It will help you navigate to a location, as well as keep your hands free so you canst up your gear in the pitch dark.
