I love the contrast of things that appear as though they shouldn’t be there, but man has forced them to. This beautiful old tree is planted directly into the pavement surrounded by 100 year old historic sandstone. When I see these things I have to photograph them. By chance the runner added a little more humanity to what would otherwise be lifeless, except for the tree, growing in concrete.

PHOTO TIP
I love opposing subjects. Hard and soft, life and lifeless, subtle and bold. Look for a way to showcase this. With buildings, regardless of what you include in the shot, leave minimal roadway in the shot unless there is something interesting to include. If needed use a perspective correcting lens, such as a tilt shift, to straighten the walls up. I’m personally not a fan of leaning buildings unless I want to create a sense of scale and/or height. Find your way. this is all part of you developing your style.
