Night 1 – We spend an evening getting to know one another and what each of our experience and goals are. Steve and Mike step through the details of the next five days including our safety briefing.
DAY 1 – We rise early and head for our very first location. Exploring Queenstown is our first adventure. We take in the stunning scenery, the architectural features and many of the stunning viewpoints alongside Lake Wakatipu to help get your bearings and build ideas for the next 4 days of exploring. You will have your own free time during the day to explore in your own way if you wish, regrouping to end our day with the sunset from a height that will amaze you.
Night 2 – Dinner and drinks after Day 1, we discuss our findings that day and relax showing off our images. Steve and Mike step us through what’s expected the next day including our safety briefing.
DAY 2 – After registering at the rangers office, we venture north to Glenorchy to commence a deep hike into wilderness beyond what you have ever seen. We check our gear and commence an all day hike into the depths of Lord of the Rings country. Hiking will start pre dawn and conclude very late in the day after darkness, leaving us to travel back to Queenstown.
Night 3 – We revel in the day and look over our images at the local restaurants and pubs, soaking up the mountain atmosphere. Steve and Mike step through the details of the next day including safety briefing.
DAY 3 – After a slightly later start than the previous epic day, we head to the Arrowtown region to explore the many rivers and streams along the historic gold panning town’s fringes. The surrounding hills and mountains provide for challenging compositions, so we can further develop techniques and hone our skills. Returning via the Lower Shotover Valley, we spend the afternoon trekking the river by the same name, before ending back in Queenstown for the evening.
Night 4 – We revel in the day and look over our images at the local restaurants and pubs, soaking up the mountain atmosphere. Steve and Mike step through the details of the next day including safety briefing and get our gear ready for a very early start the next morning. 4am. Yes, I said 4am.
DAY 4 – From the evening prior, we decide the groups wishes to return to various places. We spend this day revisiting as needed. If requested by the group we will split into two groups with a leader for each and return to those locations to continue our refinement of the previous images. Ending our day, we will sit atop a very particular rise overlooking all of Queenstown and the Otago region. This view is beyond description and is somewhat unknown, but definitely unforgettable.
Night 5 – We head to an overland location to explore our astrophotography workshop until midnight that night, if the weather permits. If not we will spend the evening editing and looking over what we have captured. Steve and Mike step through the details of our last day together including safety briefs.
DAY 5 – We spend this day however you choose. You are free to explore town, or take a trip across to a remote farm on a 120 year old paddle steamer. It’s your choice. Our day ends this afternoon at one of the best old English pubs for a celebratory drink and a discussion on who would like to stay for an extra few days and follow myself and Mike around. If you need to catch a flight or drive on to your next accomodation or journey, we will bid you adieu and thank you, and help where we can to get you to your next destination.
