On tripod, Canon 5DMk2, 55mm, F9, 1/160th sec, ISO 100, no filter, processed in Lightroom.

I called this the plank, because the old wharf I was standing on, was so rickety, I honestly felt like another step forward had me closer to getting wet.  The sunset was just beautiful, and seemed to light the mountain range with an orange spotlight. It took a lot of will to stand there with my tripod legs open to the end of each side of the wharf and a lot of gear in the bag behind me. A few feet in front of me the support beams of the pier were rotted away and so going further was not happening. I was happy with where I was.

PHOTO TIP

Piers and wharves need to have their length emphasized. This use of the pier leadin you into the into the picture, is know as using “leading lines”. Anything can create a leading line, like the edge of something, or a long straight or curved object that creates a pathways through an image. Piers do this the best because they are often directly over a large body of water they will stand our strongly in your frame.
